9. Final Photos

I have chosen this photograph as one of my final photos as I think it is a powerful photograph in capturing what I wished to capture. The lights that shine brightly confirm that this photo is taken at nighttime and the silhouette of my model suggests that she is trapped in the night. I really like the fact that I have captured a couple walking together as on the one hand it could indicate a nice and happy relationship that she may be striving for or on the other hand when you look closely at the couple and really analyse their positions, it kind of looks like he is taking control of her direction as there is a gap between them and he is looking away from her. I also like that the footpath extends across the portrait.

I have chosen this photograph as a final photo because I think that the photo as a whole depicts a powerful attitude. The composition of both of my models faces are strong in suggesting something more. I think that in relation to my project this photo is powerful in communicating a clear sense of control. The guy in this photograph has a very blank expression on his face indicating that he is in control and very careless. Seeing as the girls face is more vague in this photograph it would indicate that she is almost owned by him.

I wanted to use this photograph as a final photo because the police car driving away perfectly highlights the issue of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a subject which is very commonly turned a blind eye to and the police car in this photograph would suggest just that. I think that the lights in this photograph are a good in communication nighttime.

I would like to use this photograph as one of my final photos. I thought that the man walking up the hill at a clear pace could represent the desperation those who are victims of human trafficking have to be rescued. I also think that the tram timetable illuminating the photograph works well in relation to my project and the concept of time just passing by when no one notices that in that time a person could be really struggling and craving help and yet they go unnoticed because people are so easily distracted by watching time tick by.

I think that this is one of my favourites for a final photograph as I think it clearly states: "Women are not cash machines." The light source in this photograph draws you immediately to the fact it is a cash machine and that people are so easily drawn to money and any ways, means and forms of being able to get money. I think it also indicates that this is how some men and women perceive other human beings. Instead of looking at the person themselves they focus on what their potential could be in means of money. This is what I know needs to stop. Women aren't money machines and this is exactly why I chose this topic to base my night time photography around.

I then wanted to use this photo in my final piece as I want my project to show potential in means of freedom for those who are victims of human trafficking. When thinking about what represents freedom I thought about flowers and nature and I thought a holly tree would be a good representation.  I thought that the holly could represent both freedom and confidence and a guarded mind and heart. I thought this because holly is spiky and the spikes are powerful in being a warning, they are confident. The colour of the leaves are vibrant which also shows confidence and the glow shows happiness. These are all things I wanted to portray through my photography as in my life time I want to see those 27 million slaves become 27 million icons of freedom.

I chose this photograph because of the composition. I think the fact my model is looking up to the sky can show both peacefulness and confidence. The draping tree I also think depicts freedom beautifully. I also think that the content of this photograph is what a victim would yearn for as victims would rarely see greenery as they spend the day locked indoors being raped and taught sex acts and then at night time they will be sent out onto the streets of a busy city. Therefore freedom from not only their captors but also from the surroundings of an over crowded city.

For this photograph I thought that bark on a tree could create a good image. I think that the texture of the bark shows that even something broken and cracked can be beautiful and free. For victims of human trafficking their reality is that they are scared for life and inside they are broken but that doesn't mean that freedom can't make broken things beautiful and that is what I wanted to capture through this photograph.

I found this photograph fascinating as it reminded me of the blossom woman in Narnia and I found that it was a true representation of freedom. The colours are so vibrant and joyful. I also think that the subtlety of the two components in the photograph create a beautiful illusion. The blossom can also represent new life as blossom occurs during spring time and spring is the time of year for new life. This then links in with my project due to new life and new freedom from human trafficking and also the whole concept of the joy coming in the morning. (There may be pain in the night but joy comes in the morning.)

I think that this photo is powerful as one of my final images because it depicts peacefulness and freedom. I think that the draping tree gives this photo a sense of calmness.

I also have chosen this photograph as a final image although I don't think i'll use it. I just like the vibrant pink of the blossom in this photograph.

I then photoshopped all of these photos into black and white as I wasn't sure which set of photos I would prefer. However after photoshopping them I am 100% certain that I will use the first 10 coloured photos as I think they portray my theme of Night in a better light.

PROTOTYPES

For an initial prototype I wanted to see what my final photographs would look like if I created a collage like border. I tested it out with all my photos being place in the middle and came to the conclusion that they looked messy and not up to the quality I wished to achieve.

For a developed prototype I decided to create my previous photos as square formatted black and white images and then print them out at a size of 5.5cm by 5.5cm. I worked out that if the top of my final image is 20.7cm long then that would divide into 3x 5.5cm plus an additional 1.5cm for spacing. I worked out that I would need 18 images to fit around the entirety of the photograph. I then decided after making the prototype that I liked this format and that I would print out the 180 images onto photographic paper mounting them on to foam board.

FINAL OUTCOME

I think my outcome has been successful in that I have been influenced by all three of my photographers and elements of their works feature in mine. I think that my layout is neat and clear. I am pleased that my photographs have printed well and hopefully they can foretell Human Trafficking and Night. When I come to putting my photographs on display I will attach them with velcro therefore making them easy to move around if I then don't like the order.
